St. Mary MacKillop engaged Projex Building Group to refurbish the existing Auditorium within the high school. The auditorium required significant upgrades to the existing facility to generate a state-of-the-art theatre as a new learning space. The design intent was to create a space where both teachers and performers could utilise a high end audio visual, staging, and lighting.

The retractable stage was constructed within an orchestra pit set down below the theatre slab level. The retractable stage has functions to allow it to retract both in and out, and up and down. The accessible chair lift was installed as a replacement for an existing lift that had deteriorated over years of use. The function of the chair lift was both a stair and platform, giving the new theatre both functionalities when in use.

Projex were required to adhere to the school’s tight restrictions concerning noise constraints and student interaction whilst the school continued to teach. All Projex personnel and subcontractors were required to obtain a current Working with Vulnerable Persons Card throughout the construction phase of the refurbishment.
