Overview

Projex were engaged under a lump sum agreement and Major Works head contract to undertake the refurbishment of the Canberra Southern Cross Club’s premises in Woden; 1600sqm within a Class 9B building.

The project began with the rejuvenation of an existing servery, dining and games area with a new high-end stainless-steel kitchen, open plan cafe seating and dining, state-of-the-art commercial pizza oven, and children’s arcade area that better utilised the available space. Detailed joinery was incorporated throughout, necessitating quality workmanship and detailed coordination. Feature finishes included Caesarstone benches, various laminates and timber veneers, brass metalwork, powdercoated steel, and feature lighting to highlight key components and create the final luxurious ambience. The successful completion of this stage was crucial to achieving an increased capacity to accommodate the client’s valued social clubs and in-house chefs and staff.

The second stage included a complete overhaul of the existing bistro into a feature clubhouse and bar area, with a new stainless steel bar, sports and gaming lounge, cafe seating, and a family dining area. The new, modernised design consisted of feature joinery elements, exposed brickwork, copper brewery tanks, and the latest high-end AV and sound equipment. The 800 sqm area was completed in just 6 weeks.
